Acoustic Guitar Mics and Justification
Coincident stereo pair – AKG C1000s
I chose to use these mics as they are mics I have previously used as drum kit overheads and wanted to see how they would do on an instrument. Being small diaphragm condensers, I knew these mics would provide the warmth and detail needed for acoustic guitar. The stereo pair was positioned in front of the centre of the guitar.
Mid Mic – Shure Beta57
I chose this mic as it is a warm sounding microphone that will be good for capture the detail of the acoustic guitar with its slight rise in frequency response between 4-5kHz. Being a dynamic microphone it will add a different texture to the stereo pair conceders.
Guitar body mic – Audix D6
I used an Audix D6 to mic up the body of the acoustic guitar. I had decided to use this mic as I had used it previously for toms on a drum kit and know it has a profound frequency response in the low end to capture the warm low end from the body of the acoustic guitar.
Guitar neck microphone - Beyerdynamic M201
I decided to use this mic as it is a small diaphragm dynamic mic to capture the detail of the guitar strings being played.
