A pre recorded acoustic guitar track, timed to a click track, was used as a backing track.

I decided to set up and record the drum kit in a room with ambience and with a nice reverb time. I chose to use the portable rig in the college, and set up to record in the theatre at the college. The theatre is a large room with high ceilings and a healthy natural reverb, a great space for recording drums!

I set up and miked up the drum kit with the Shure drum mic kit and carried out phase checking, and the 4 X AKG 414's for the Hamasaki Square to capture room ambience.

Hamasaki Square.

All mics were connected to an analogue Soundcraft live mixing desk, with the direct outs from each channel feeding into the collages portable rig to the RME fireface and Focusrite Octopre.

All mikes were gained and levels on the mixing desk, then gained up from the converters. A headphone mix was sent to the drummer via the headphone send from the desk, to AUX1 on the desk, sent to the drummer.
